Firstly, the most important advice I can give is to be there for your child. It is something that I know can benefit all children no matter the situation. Also, it might be more helpful than you might give it credit for. Having that support can solve one of the biggest problems teenagers face when going through depression, and that is their feeling of loneliness and hopelessness. From here, it's up to you to decide what exactly is the next step. If this depression is even the slightest bit serious, there are definitely options.

From here, you can get them help. Professional help. You may think or your child may argue that the problem isn't serious enough for that. But ask yourself, is it really worth risking your own child suffering from depression or even possibly committing suicide? Today, we have so many helpful ways to treat depression, and it is treatable. There are options ranging from different medication to therapists and counselors who are trained to help people manage their depression. If your child’s depression is mild, it might be really useful to go speak to a therapist and learn strategies to help overcome the depression emotionally. If your child’s depression is moderate to severe, it might be really helpful to speak to a General Practitioner who can identify what medication is best suitable to treat the depression. There are options. There is no reason to feel like you have no way to help your child. It is just really important that you stay diligent to know when your child might be suffering, and then act accordingly.
